Water Tower Maintenance on Roanoke Island

Customers may experience water discoloration due to the water tower maintenance being performed. This maintenance required flushing of the distribution pipes. This water is safe to consume, but customers are encouraged to run cold water until clear and avoid washing light colored clothing. Please check your water color prior to washing clothing.

Tuesday, April 14, 2026 is lock day.  Your payment must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026; otherwise your meter will be locked and your account will be charged a $50 non payment fee.

Once payment has been made you can call 252.475.5990 with a confirmation number.  Your meter will then be turned back on.  Do not turn your meter on yourself.  This may result in a tamper fee.

Hydrant Flushing Schedule

Over the next couple of months the Dare County Water Department will be flushing hydrants.  Please refer to the schedule below for the date and time in your location.  All flushing will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

During flushing customers may experience temporary water discoloration or momentary loss of water pressure.  We suggest that you lift the lever to stop your refrigerator's automatic icemaker and refrain from washing light colored clothing during these periods of flushing.  Please check your water color prior to washing clothing.
