Where do I take used furniture, appliances and used mattress?
Dare County offers two Construction & Demolition locations for residents and businesses. These items may be brought to either the C&D Landfill located at 1603 Cub Road in Manns Harbor or the Buxton Transfer Station located at 47027 NC Hwy 12 in Buxton. Please visit www.DareNC.com/PublicWorks for further information.
C&D Landfill - Rubble Transfer Station
Due to significant staffing shortages resulting from long-term medical leave and vacant positions, Dare County Public Works has announced that the Construction & Demolition (C&D) Landfill located at 1603 Cub Road in Manns Harbor will be closed on Saturdays beginning Saturday, November 29, 2025, and continuing until further notice. This temporary schedule adjustment will allow Dare County Public Works staff to continue operating efficiently and effectively during weekday business hours while ongoing hiring efforts actively continue.
Transfer Station to Remain Open During Landfill Closures
Although the C&D Landfill side of the facility in Manns Harbor will be closed on Saturdays until further notice, the Transfer Station side of the facility will remain open during this time. Contractors who typically dispose of C&D materials at the landfill on Saturdays will still be able to dispose of those materials at the Transfer Station, which operates on the same property at 1603 Cub Road in Manns Harbor.
However, contractors should note that the tipping fee at the Transfer Station is higher ($94.04 per ton) than at the C&D Landfill ($73.16 per ton) because materials must be transported offsite for disposal.
Dare County Public Works appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as the department works to fill critical vacancies and restore full operations as soon as possible!
