Dare County offers two construction and demolition (C&D) locations for residents and businesses to dispose of construction materials, and metal materials, such as appliances. There is a truck scale on location for weighing. The first 500 lbs. for residential customers is free, and the rest is prorated at $73.16/ton. The Buxton Transfer Station allows residents and commercial business to drop off building materials and white goods. This locations also provides local residents a place where they can drop off appliances, metals, home furnishings and auto tires. There is a truck scale weigh-in station where residents and commercial builders can have waste weighed prior to disposal at the appropriate sites. The first 500 pounds for residential customers is free, and the rest is prorated at $73.16/ton. 

Fee disclosure notice for payment by Credit/Debit Card. Customers using credit/debit cards to pay for services will be charged a processing fee payable to Dare County's merchant service provider at the rate of 2.95%, or the minimum of $2.50, in addition to the cost of services. This is not a fee paid to the county. The credit card processing fee will be reflected as a separate transaction on your credit card statement. 

A ten percent (10%) penalty (minimum $25.00) will be charged for any check returned due to insufficient funds [N.C.G.S. 105-357(b)(2)], plus any criminal penalties provided by law.

DISPOSAL OF CAMPERS

  • Whole campers will not be accepted.
  • Must be demolished and metals separated from construction debris. No exceptions. 
  • No assistance will be provided in unloading the camper.

DISPOSAL OF VESSELS

  • All boat owners must call the landfill prior to arrival to make arrangements for disposal of the vessel.
  • Smaller vessels may be accepted whole if all fuel tanks, engines, holding tanks and other metals have been removed.
  • Larger vessels may require appointment if deemed necessary by management.
  • Whole vessels of any size will not be accepted at the Buxton Transfer Site.
  • No assistance is able to be provided in unloading the vessel.
