Fitness Class Descriptions:

Advanced Senior Strength, Cardio & Core

Monday & Friday: 9:00am| Class Length: 1hr 15 min| Instructor: Aubrey Remige

This class is a higher intensity version of the popular Senior Strength class with the inclusion of Interval Training. The first twenty minutes consists of light weight training followed by 40 minutes of higher intensity interval dance aerobics, the class ends with 15 minutes of floor core exercises and stretching. This class is perfect for anyone interested in aerobics at higher intensity levels.

Chair Aerobics 

Monday & Wednesday: 12:00pm| Class Length: 30 minutes|  Instructor: Aubrey Remige 

This class is an aerobics class designed to improve cardiovascular fitness and strengthen muscles. Many of the exercises in this class are based on falls prevention exercises and training. The class will include strength exercises, standing exercises, balance exercises, and light weight training. All aerobic activities will be seated. This class is suitable for people of all abilities and fitness levels.

Chair Yoga 

Friday: 12:00pm| Class Length: 30 minutes| Instructor:  Aubrey Remige 

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support. It is a great practice for everyone, as it deepens flexibility and strengthens personal body awareness.   This class is suitable for people of all abilities and fitness levels.  

Comfort Cardio 

Monday & Wednesday: 3:00pm| Class Length: 1 hour| Instructor: Al Bailey 

Based on an ancient Chinese non-martial art, Bagua-Chigong, walking in a perfect eight ft circle, causes our body energy to cycle in the direction we walk, clockwise and counter-clock-wise. The intentional movements combined with a specific breathing practice, increase circulation of fresh blood, oxygen, and nutrients that massage our internal organs, relieve pressure in joints, relaxes and tones muscles, increases motor skills, and calms the mind.  The eight ft circle is etched onto our Therapeutic Mat, and gives you tactile feedback through the feet while walking. Donation based- drop in class.  

Improvement Through Movement 

Tuesday: 9:00am| Class Length: 45 minutes| Instructor: Lisa Minerich

This class will focus on movement that improves range of motion, flexibility, balance, posture, function and positive energy.  The class will include seated and standing exercise and can be modified for individual needs.  All are welcome!  

Jazz Dance 

Thursday: 9:00am Class Length: 45 minutes| Instructor:  Gloria Lawrence 

The class is based on a traditional jazz dance class, including warm ups, floor work, dances and cool downs.  The music ranges from 60's to current, rock to country and disco to Broadway.  This class is suited to anyone who has danced before or anyone who has always wanted to learn to dance. 

Line Dance

Tuesday: 1:00pm| Class Length: 1hr| Instructor: Renee Froelke

Join Renee from the Boot Scootin Beaches for this fun and beneficial line dance class.  No experience needed to learn line dances and socialize.  Please wear supportive tennis shoes.  

Senior Strength, Cardio & Core

This class is an aerobics class designed to improve cardiovascular fitness and strengthen muscles. The first twenty minutes consists of light weight training followed by 40 minutes of dance aerobics. Class ends with 15 minutes of floor exercises and stretching. This class is perfect for beginners with no prior aerobic experience but also provides opportunity for more experienced participants to work at higher intensity levels. 

WARRIOR Strength™

Wednesday: 9:00am| Class Length: 1hr| Instructor: Aubrey Remige 

WARRIOR Strength™ is a dynamic format including cardio and strength training, energizing playlists, and a functional fitness focus. WARRIOR Strength includes super fun and original formulas that make time fly by. Sweat, feel the burn, and enjoy an endorphin rush like no other while working on your heart health.  Perfect for advanced fitness levels and anyone interested in a challenging class!

Yoga 

Tuesday & Thursday: 10:00am| Class Length: 1hr| Instructor:  Aubrey Remige 

This class is a traditional hatha yoga class designed to increase flexibility and draw the attention inward.  The class can be as gentle or as challenging as you care to make it and the poses will include deep muscle stretches, strength exercises, standing exercises, seated and lying floor stretches, and balance exercises. Often movements will flow from standing to seated to prone postures throughout the class, participants will need to be able to get down to the floor and back up to standing comfortably.

Zumba Gold 

Tuesday: 11:30am| Class Length: 1hr|  Instructor: Renee Thompson 

Zumba Gold is great for Active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba® class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba® choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Have fun dancing, smiling and laughing while getting healthy.  Donation based-drop in class. 


Participation Requirement:

All new members must complete membership paperwork and a 15-minute orientation before participating in any fitness classes or utilizing the Baum Senior Center’s fitness room. Please call 252-475-5635 for more information. Please remember to arrive five minutes early for all classes as a courtesy to others.
