Teen Court
Teen Court is an alternative system of justice. It is a restorative justice diversion program for participants to recognize the harm caused, the impact of their choices (personally, in the family and within the community) and repair the harm.
The creative and constructive sentencing in Teen Court is intended to educate, encourage skill-building, self-discipline and restore the offender to the community.
Volunteer opportunities are available for students in grades 7 through 12. Volunteers learn valuable skills and take a leadership role in helping change the lives of their peers. Past Dare County Teen Court volunteers were awarded the North Carolina Governor's Volunteer Service Award in 2014 and in 2025.
Teen Court Leadership
The student Leadership Team supports Dare County Teen Court to positively influence the lives of young people in our community. Team members serve as role models for their peers and maintain high standards of conduct.
Students on the Leadership Team participate as clerk of court, jury foreperson, defense and prosecuting attorneys. Leadership Team training is held two times per month during the summer.
