Current Situation
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), more commonly known as avian or bird flu, is widespread in wild birds worldwide and is causing outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows with several recent human cases in U.S. dairy and poultry workers.
While the current public health risk is low, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services (NCDHHS) and Dare County Department of Health & Human Services (DCDHHS)are watching the situation carefully and working collaboratively to monitor any individuals that may have an exposure to a sick animal.
