The Dare County Sheriff's Office is proud to protect and serve its community, citizens and visitors. Since 1870, Dare County Deputies have been doing their part to help make our community on the Outer Banks, Roanoke Island and the mainland of Dare County a better place to live, work and visit. With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

Identity Theft. 400 block of Harbour View Drive, Colington. Phone accounts opened using the victim’s identity. Under investigation.

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 100 block of Roanoke Trail, Roanoke Island. The victim attempted to purchase an item from a fraudulent website. Under investigation.

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 40000 block of North End Road, Avon. After a family member was arrested, the family sent approx. $1,300 to a scammer pretending to be a Deputy Sheriff. Under investigation.

June 18, 2026
Larceny. 40000 block of Scarborough Road, Avon. After ordering a cell phone online, the shipping box arrived empty.

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 900 block of Marshall C. Collins Drive, Roanoke Island. Victim sent scammers $2,000 via Cash App as part of a missing jury duty / US Park Service / Dare County Sheriff’s Office scam. Under investigation.
