Stormy Heroux, who serves as an accounting assistant for the Dare County Department of Health & Human Services’ (DHHS) Public Health Division, has been named Dare County Employee of the Month for April 2026. The award was presented to Heroux by DHHS front office manager Jeremy Harvey during the Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting that was held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Heroux’s service to Dare County began on October 10, 2016, when she was initially hired as a detention officer for the Dare County Detention Center on Roanoke Island. On June 17, 2018, she transferred to the Dare County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center, where she worked as a telecommunicator, before returning to the Dare County Detention Center on October 1, 2018 to once again work as a detention officer. On April 4, 2022, she transferred to the Dare County Department of Health & Human Services, where she took on her current role of accounting assistant.

“I am honored to be here to recognize Stormy Heroux,” said Harvey as he began his presentation. “She has been nominated by her peers for Employee of the Month, and this is very well deserved.”

As he continued his remarks, Harvey reflected on the time Heroux has spent working with the Health Department over the past four years and the consistent professionalism she has demonstrated in her position. 

“Stormy has been at the Health Department since April of 2022. During that time, she has consistently demonstrated reliability, professionalism and a strong commitment to serve in our community,” said Harvey. “Prior to joining us, she worked at the Detention Center, so she has truly brought some valuable experience and a unique perspective that strengthened our team over there.”

Harvey went on to highlight the positive and lasting impression Heroux makes through her daily interactions, noting the welcoming presence she provides to both her coworkers and the members of the public that she serves.

“She’s truly become a welcoming and recognizable face of public health,” said Harvey. “Anyone who’s been to the Health Department has seen Stormy; they know Stormy. Consistently, our community members come in and they are greeted with Stormy’s smile.” 

Harvey further emphasized that the Employee of the Month recognition is an especially meaningful award because it reflects the appreciation and respect of her peers throughout the Dare County Department of Health & Human Services and beyond. 

“What makes this nomination especially meaningful is that it comes from her coworkers and staff she interacts daily with from across the board,” Harvey said. “So being recognized by your peers speaks volumes—it reflects the respect you’ve earned, the teamwork you show up for every day, and the positive impact you have on those around you.”

As he concluded his remarks and presented her with the Dare County Employee of the Month award for April 2026, Harvey praised Heroux for her dependability and the example she sets, both within her own department and throughout the broader community she serves.

“Stormy is someone we can count on,” he said. “She shows up, steps up, and supports both her team and the individuals we serve with care and dedication. So Stormy, thank you for the work you do and the example you set. We appreciate you, and we’re proud to recognize you today. Congratulations!”
