On April 1, 2026, at approximately 9:55 p.m., Deputies from the B-District of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling along U.S. Highway 64 in the Manns Harbor area due to a traffic violation.

During the course of the traffic stop, deputies established probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle, which resulted in the discovery and seizure of a felony amount of controlled substances.

Kira L. Walters, F/19, from Kill Devil Hills, NC, was arrested and charged with:

  • Felony Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance
  • Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
  • Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia 
  • (I) Speeding

Walters was issued a $3,000 secured bond in lieu of these charges.
