The Dare County Sheriff's Office is proud to protect and serve its community, citizens and visitors. Since 1870, Dare County Deputies have been doing their part to help make our community on the Outer Banks, Roanoke Island and the mainland of Dare County a better place to live, work and visit. With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

Worthless Check. 26000 block of Otter Way, Salvo. Contractor received two $2,500 worthless checks. Under investigation.

March 2, 2026
Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 41000 block of NC 12 Hwy, Avon. Unauthorized withdraw for $5,000 from the victim’s bank account. The bank is investigating further.

March 7, 2026
Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle. 57000 block of Saxon Cut Drive, Hatteras. Vehicle reported stolen. Upon arrival Deputies located the vehicle down the street from the victim’s residence.

March 13, 2026
Larceny of a Firearm. 50000 block of Timber Trail, Frisco. Firearm reported stolen as part of an ongoing landlord tenant dispute.

March 14, 2026
Larceny. 42000 block of NC 12 Hwy, Avon. Items reported stolen from a business. Upon further investigation a suspect was identified and charged with the crime.

March 17, 2026
Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle. 40000 block of CC Gray Road, Avon. Purse reported stolen from the victim’s vehicle after a family squabble. Upon further investigation the suspect and purse were located. Purse was returned to the victim, who did not wish to pursue charges.

March 21, 2026
Financial Credit Card Fraud. 1000 block of George Daniels Road, Roanoke Island. Unauthorized charges on the victim’s financial card. The bank is disputing the charges and investigating further.
