In observance of the upcoming Good Friday holiday, all Dare County offices and facilities will be closed on Friday, April 3, 2026. These closures include the Dare County C&D Landfill in Manns Harbor, the Buxton Transfer Station and the Manteo Recycle Yard. These three Dare County Public Works sites will reopen and resume regular hours of operation on Saturday, April 4, 2026. 

All other Dare County offices and facilities will reopen and resume operating with their regularly scheduled hours on Monday, April 6, 2026.

REMINDER: The C&D Landfill side of the facility in Manns Harbor will be closed on Saturdays until further notice; however, the Transfer Station side of the facility will remain open during this time. Contractors who typically dispose of C&D materials at the landfill on Saturdays will still be able to dispose of those materials at the Transfer Station, which operates on the same property at 1603 Cub Road in Manns Harbor.

In addition, Dare County Public Works, which only provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk, has announced a revised collection schedule for the week of Monday, March 30, 2026 to Friday, April 3, 2026 due to the Good Friday holiday closure. 

Residential trash collection for the week of Monday, March 30, 2026 through Friday, April 3, 2026 will be as follows:

• Monday, March 30, 2026: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
• Tuesday, March 31, 2026: Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
• Wednesday, April 1, 2026: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
• Thursday, April 2, 2026: Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
• Friday, April 3, 2026: Closed for Good Friday - no trash collection.

Commercial dumpster collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk will take place on Monday, March 30, 2026 and Thursday, April 2, 2026.

REMINDER: The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits. If you are located within one of the incorporated towns within Dare County (with the exception of Kitty Hawk), please contact your municipality for information regarding any trash collection schedule changes in your area.
