On March 18, 2026, at approximately 11 a.m., Deputies from A-District of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Kill Devil Hills area for a traffic violation.

A Sheriff's Office K9 alerted on the vehicle and a search was conducted, resulting in the discovery and seizure of an amount of synthetic cannabinoid, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Justin D. Cason, M/40, from Knotts Island, NC, was arrested and charged with:

  • Felony Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoid
  • (M) Possession of Marijuana up to ½ oz
  • (M) Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia 

Cason has been issued a $5,000 secured bond in lieu of these charges.

The Nags Head Police Department also assisted with the incident.
