The Dare County Sheriff's Office is proud to protect and serve its community, citizens and visitors. Since 1870, Dare County Deputies have been doing their part to help make our community on the Outer Banks, Roanoke Island and the mainland of Dare County a better place to live, work and visit. With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

February 2, 2026

Forging and Uttering Check. 100 block of Weir Point Drive, Roanoke Island. Check intercepted after being mailed. The check was then altered and cashed at an unknown bank for $15,000. Under investigation.

February 3, 2026

Financial Card Theft. 200 block of Watersedge Drive, Colington. Financial card stolen then used to purchase items. After further investigation a suspect was identified and charged with the offenses.

February 4, 2026

Identity Theft. 100 block of Baum Bay Drive, Colington. Victim reported someone opened a credit card using their name. No money was lost and the card was cancelled.

February 10, 2026

Financial Credit Card Fraud. 200 block of Brothers Lane, Wanchese. Victim’s bank account compromised and $11,000 stolen as part of an iCloud scam. Under investigation.

February 13, 2026

Forging and Uttering Check. 400 block of Harbour View Drive, Colington. Check intercepted after being mailed. The check was then altered and cashed at an unknown bank for $1,500. Under investigation.

February 18, 2026

Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle. 39000 block of Wahoo Circle, Avon. Three firearms stolen from an unsecured vehicle. Under investigation.

February 23, 2026

Larceny. 600 block of Harbor Road, Wanchese. Utility trailer reported stolen. Upon further investigation the trailer was located and returned to the victim. No charges were filed at the request of the victim.

February 27, 2026

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. Owens Shipyard Road, Wanchese. Victim wired $19,000 to scammers as part of an online vehicle purchase scam. Under investigation.
