With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

On March 1, 2026, at approximately 6:34 p.m., a Dare County Sheriff's Office deputy recognized a vehicle in the Manteo Area as being associated with an individual with an active warrant. The driver was confirmed to be the wanted individual and was placed under arrest.

Michael J. Wallace III, M/33, from Southern Shores, NC, was arrested and charged with:

  • Felony Warrant Service/Fugitive Warrant/State of Virginia
  • (M) Resisting, Delaying, or Obstructing Law Enforcement

Wallace has been issued a $3,000 secured bond related to these charges.

The Manteo Police Department also assisted in the incident.

The Dare County Sheriff's Office remains committed to upholding public safety and encourages anyone with information about criminal activity to contact local law enforcement.
