Dare County Emergency Management is urging residents and visitors to stay home and stay safe as hazardous conditions persist across the area.

A State of Emergency remains in effect for all areas of Dare County, which will enable local officials to take actions to protect public health and safety during an emergency if needed.

A Winter Storm Warning, Coastal Flood Warning, High Wind Warning, High Surf Warning and Extreme Cold Warning also remain in effect.

Snow and ice-covered roads, reduced visibility, and dangerously cold temperatures continue to make travel unsafe. Even as snowfall ends, conditions may worsen due to refreezing overnight and limited access for emergency responders.

Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and take the following precautions:

• Stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Roadways may appear passable but remain icy and unpredictable.

• Check on neighbors, especially older adults and those with medical needs, while doing so safely.

• Dress warmly and limit time outdoors to prevent cold-related injuries.

• Use space heaters safely—keep them away from flammable materials, plug them directly into an outlet, and never leave them unattended.

Emergency services remain active and prepared to respond as conditions allow, but response times may be delayed due to weather impacts.

The community’s cooperation and patience is appreciated as crews work to address storm impacts. Staying home and minimizing travel is the best way to protect yourself and allow emergency personnel to do their jobs safely.
