The Dare Soil & Water Conservation District invites local teachers to attend a Coastal Conservation Workshop that will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head. The Teachers’ Conservation Workshop is an opportunity for Dare County teachers to get out of the classroom for a day and learn both principles and advanced concepts of conservation. The Dare Soil & Water Conservation District will bring together professionals from a broad range of conservation areas to discuss and share their expertise, knowledge, skills, and passions for conservation. Broad topics are discussed, but presentations are tailored to the coastal ecosystems that are special and prevalent within Dare County.
Conservation has always shaped our culture and lives and continues to do so, from great authors and poets like E.O. Wilson, Henry David Thoreau, and John Muir, to politically minded conservationists like Teddy Roosevelt, Gifford Pinchot, and Hugh Hammond Bennett, to scientists like Rachel Carson, Aldo Leopold, and Caroline Dormon.
Attendees will attain knowledge, strategies, skills, resources, and tools for teaching conservation in the classroom. This opportunity is open to teachers of all disciplines, from science to social studies to literature, teaching grades K through 12. Credit will be earned for both Dare County School System Continuing Education Units and Environmental Educator Criteria II.
The cost to attend is $10 per person, with checks made out to “Dare County General Fund” and sent to: Dare Soil & Water Conservation District, PO Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954. Please register online before Tuesday, March 31, 2026 using the link below.
