N.C. Highway 12 Impacts:
Flooding from both oceanside and soundside waters is expected along vulnerable areas of N.C. Highway 12 on Hatteras Island, making travel extremely dangerous and likely leading to road closures. As road conditions deteriorate, travel should be avoided until conditions improve.
Oceanfront areas with compromised dunes face the greatest risk of ocean overwash, including the north end of Rodanthe and the north end of Buxton. Residents in these areas should be prepared to protect property and relocate if conditions warrant.
Additional watches and warnings are expected to be issued by the National Weather Service. Pay close attention to their updated forecasts and make necessary preparations.
