All Dare County offices and facilities will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026 in observance of New Year’s Day.

These closures include the Dare County C&D Landfill in Manns Harbor, the Buxton Transfer Station and the Manteo Recycle Yard, which will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026 and will reopen and operate with regularly scheduled hours on Friday, January 2, 2026.

REMINDER: The C&D Landfill side of the facility in Manns Harbor will be closed on Saturdays until further notice; however, the Transfer Station side of the facility will remain open during this time. Contractors who typically dispose of C&D materials at the landfill on Saturdays will still be able to dispose of those materials at the Transfer Station, which operates on the same property at 1603 Cub Road in Manns Harbor.

Dare County Public Works, which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk, has announced a revised collection schedule for residential and commercial trash collection during the week of New Year’s.

Residential trash collection for the week of Monday, December 29, 2025 through Friday, January 2, 2026, will be as follows:

Monday, December 29, 2025:
Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras. 

Tuesday, December 30, 2025:
Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon.

Wednesday, December 31, 2025:
Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras. 

Thursday, January 1, 2026:
Closed - No trash collection. Happy New Year!

Friday, January 2, 2026:
Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon. 

Commercial dumpster collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025; Wednesday, December 31, 2025; and Friday, January 2, 2026.

REMINDER: The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits. If you are located within one of the incorporated towns within Dare County, please contact your municipality for information regarding any trash collection schedule changes in your area.
