All Dare County offices and facilities will be closed on Wednesday, December 24, 2025; Thursday, December 25, 2025; and Friday, December 26, 2025 in observance of the Christmas holiday.

These closures include the Dare County C&D Landfill in Manns Harbor, the Buxton Transfer Station and the Manteo Recycle Yard, which will be closed on Wednesday, December 24, 2025; Thursday, December 25, 2025; and Friday, December 26, 2025 and will reopen and operate with regularly scheduled hours on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

REMINDER: The C&D Landfill side of the facility in Manns Harbor will be closed on Saturdays until further notice; however, the Transfer Station side of the facility will remain open during this time. Contractors who typically dispose of C&D materials at the landfill on Saturdays will still be able to dispose of those materials at the Transfer Station, which operates on the same property at 1603 Cub Road in Manns Harbor.

Dare County Public Works, which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk, has announced a revised residential trash collection schedule during the week of the 2025 Christmas holiday.

Trash Collection Schedule - Week of Christmas 2025:

There will be one residential pickup per area during the week of Christmas, which runs from Monday, December 22, 2025 through Friday, December 26, 2025. 

• Monday, December 22, 2025: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras. Trash collection will resume on Monday, December 29, 2025.
• Tuesday, December 23, 2025: Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon. Trash collection will resume on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
• Wednesday, December 24, 2025: Closed - No trash collection. 
• Thursday, December 25, 2025: Closed - No trash collection. Merry Christmas!
• Friday, December 26, 2025: Closed - No trash collection.

Commercial dumpster collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk will take place on Monday, December 22, 2025 and Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

REMINDER: The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the Town of Kitty Hawk and the unincorporated areas of Dare County. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits. If you are located within one of the incorporated towns within Dare County, please contact your municipality for information regarding any trash collection schedule changes in your area.
