In response to the significant amount of debris that was generated from the collapse of five houses in Buxton on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 during the coastal storm, Dare County has announced that its debris removal contractor, Dupon, will conduct a storm debris collection in this area on Monday, November 17, 2025. If possible, place debris in front of collection crews in areas that have not yet been cleared, using the east side right-of-way.
While the county previously indicated that the storm debris collection Dupon performed in Buxton last week would be the final debris removal effort related to the collapse of private properties, the severe impacts of this most recent storm have created another unprecedented situation that poses a risk to both environmental and public safety, prompting this additional response.
Once it is safe to do so, affected private property owners in Buxton are asked to ensure that all storm-related debris is moved by their private contractors to the designated right-of-way along Old Lighthouse Road no later than Sunday, November 16, 2025. This will allow the county’s contractor to complete the collection safely and efficiently.
Reminder: After the county’s debris removal contractor has finished clearing an area, please do not place additional debris in those locations.
