All Dare County offices and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. This includes the Manteo Recycle Yard, the Dare County C&D Landfill and the Buxton Transfer Station. 

The Manteo Recycle Yard, the Dare County C&D Landfill and the Buxton Transfer Station will reopen on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Dare County Public Works—which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of the county and the Town of Kitty Hawk only—has also announced a revised schedule for residential and commercial trash collection.

Residential Trash Collection:

Residential trash collection for the week of Monday, November 10, 2025 through Friday, November 14, 2025, will take place as follows.  

• Monday, November 10, 2025 - Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
• Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - CLOSED for Veterans Day (no trash collection)
• Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco,  East Lake, Stumpy Point, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
• Thursday, November 13, 2025 - Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
• Friday, November 14, 2025 - Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon

Commercial Trash Collection:

There will be no changes to commercial dumpster collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County or the Town of Kitty Hawk for the week of Monday, November 10, 2025 through Friday, November 14, 2025.

REMINDER: The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and Town of Kitty Hawk. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits. 

If you are located within one of the incorporated towns within Dare County—with the exception of the Town of Kitty Hawk—please contact your town of residence for information regarding any trash collection schedule changes in your area.
