The Dare County Sheriff's Office is proud to protect and serve its community, citizens and visitors. Since 1870, Dare County Deputies have been doing their part to help make our community on the Outer Banks, Roanoke Island and the mainland of Dare County a better place to live, work and visit. With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

Fraudulent Insurance Claim. 100 block of Etheridge Road, Roanoke Island. False claim filed on the victim’s insurance. Upon further investigation it was determined to be a clerical error. No crime committed.

September 4, 2025
Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 40000 block of McMullen Road, Avon. Victim received a fraudulent check for $13,800 as part of a contractor scam. Under investigation.

September 5, 2025
Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 3000 block of Martins Point Road, Martins Point. Victim sent a scammer $1,600 in Apple Pay as part of a Facebook Marketplace coin purchase scam. Under investigation.

September 10, 2025
Breaking and Entering. 40000 block of North End Road, Avon. Victim’s room was broken into and $2,500 in cash was reported missing.

September 10, 2025
Financial Card Fraud. 47000 block of Rocky Rollinson Road, Buxton. Victim reported $700 in unauthorized charges on their financial card. Report filed for banking purposes.

September 11, 2025
Breaking and Entering. 1000 block of Westcott Park Road, Roanoke Island. Concession stand broken into and chocolate bars were stolen. Under investigation for possible video evidence.

September 18, 2025
Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. Victim sent their brand new $1,300 phone to an address in Nevada as part of a Spectrum phone scam. Under investigation.

September 19, 2025
Financial Card Fraud. 1000 block of Burnside Drive, Roanoke Island. Victim reported a family member sent themselves $1,300 via Cash App from the victim’s credit card. Under investigation.

September 22, 2025
Larceny. 700 block of Old Wharf Road, Wanchese. Firearm reported stolen from a residence. Under investigation.

September 24, 2025
Larceny. 900 block of Bernice Ave, Roanoke Island. Rims and tires reported stolen. Upon further investigation, suspects were identified and charged for the crime.

September 25, 2025
Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 47000 block of Rocky Rollinson Road, Buxton. Contractor took $3,000 and never completed the work. Under investigation.

September 30, 2025
Larceny of a Dog. 900 block of Wingina Ave, Roanoke Island. Dog reported stolen. Upon further investigation the dog was located and returned to the owner. No charges were filed.
