Dare County Sheriff's Office and the Manteo Police Department

At 4:11 p.m. today, the Dare Central Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call regarding a Suspicious Condition of a Crime In-Progress in the 200 block of Mother Vineyard Road, Roanoke Island, Manteo, NC.
 
Manteo Police Officers were the closest to the call and Mutual Aid was obtained from the Sheriff's Office. When the Officers arrived at the scene, they were confronted by an armed subject and an Officer discharged their firearm. Dare County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Dare County Emergency Medical Services (E.M.S.) arrived at the scene, and E.M.S. provided service to the subject. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
The Dare County Sheriff's Office and the Manteo Police Department have requested the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (N.C. S.B.I.) to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon around 4:20 p.m.
 
No other information is available for release at this time. Should additional details become available, the SBI will release them through a press release.
