The Dare County Sheriff's Office is proud to protect and serve its community, citizens and visitors. Since 1870, Dare County Deputies have been doing their part to help make our community on the Outer Banks, Roanoke Island and the mainland of Dare County a better place to live, work and visit. With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 900 block of Marshall C Collins Drive, Roanoke Island. Victim sent scammer(s) $700 in gift cards as part of a “missed jury duty” scam.

August 12, 2025
Larceny. 700 block of Harbor Road, Wanchese. GPS unit stolen off a boat.

August 13, 2025
Breaking and Entering. 48000 Daniel Lane, Buxton. Tools and household items reported stolen. Upon further investigation it was determined a family member removed the items. No crime committed.

August 13, 2025
Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle. 40000 block of NC 12 Hwy, Avon. Victim reported a radar detector stolen from their vehicle. A suspect was identified and arrested for the theft.

August 13, 2025
Breaking and Entering. 46000 block of Ocean Drive, Buxton. The victim reported a known suspect broke into their residence and assaulted them. The suspect fled prior to law enforcement arrival. Warrants were obtained and the suspect was arrested.

Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle. 42000 block of Pheasant Circle, Avon. Victim reported various financial cards missing from their purse.

August 17, 2025
Larceny of Boat. 1400 block of Harbour View Drive, Colington. Catamaran reported stolen when it was discovered missing from the beach.

August 20, 2025
Identity Theft. 49000 block Midgett Way, Buxton. Victim had over $17,000 removed from a bank account as part of a phone scam. Under investigation.

August 23, 2025
Breaking and Entering. 50000 block of Timber Trail, Frisco. Victim reported numerous household items stolen from their residence. Security footage showed three suspects removing the items. Suspects were identified from the footage. Under investigation.

August 27, 2025
Larceny. 50000 block of Sunset Strip, Frisco. Family squabble over a cell phone. Phone was returned to the owner with no charges filed.

August 31, 2025
Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. 1000 block of Driftwood Drive, Roanoke Island. While trying to bond their abuser out of jail the victim sent a scammer over $1,200 via Apple Pay as part of a Detention Officer / bond scam.
