With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

On July 27, 2025, Deputies from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Kill Devil Hills area for a report of sexual assault. 

The investigation, with the Dare County Criminal Investigations Division and interagency assistance, led to the identification of a suspect and the subsequent issuance of an arrest warrant on July 28, 2025.

Michael K. Taylor, M/46, from Kill Devil Hills, NC, was arrested and charged with Felony Second Degree Forcible Sex Offense.

Mr. Taylor was issued a $250,000 secured bond.

The Kill Devil Hills Police Department, Kitty Hawk Police Department, and Currituck County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
