The Dare County Parks and Recreation Department regrets to announce the cancellation of tonight's highly anticipated Family Fun in the Park Block Party due to dangerous heat, flash flooding and strong thunderstorms possible this afternoon and throughout the evening. The decision was made to protect the safety and well-being of community members and attendees.

Originally scheduled to take place at Family Recreation Park in Kill Devil Hills, NC from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (July 18, 2025), the event aimed to bring together families and friends for an evening of music, food, and outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the forecasted weather conditions have necessitated this decision.

"We understand the disappointment this cancellation may cause, especially considering the excitement surrounding this event," said Dare County Parks & Recreation’s Northern Beach Division Leisure Services Supervisor Charlotte Midgett-Winstead. "However, ensuring the safety of all participants is our primary concern."

The Dare County Parks and Recreation Department extends its sincere apologies to everyone who planned to attend and participate in tonight's festivities. Dare County staff members appreciate your understanding and look forward to announcing future community events.
