Gordon Price, who serves as the facility maintenance supervisor for the Dare County Public Works Department, has been named Dare County Employee of the Month for July 2025. The prestigious award was presented to Price by Dare County Facilities Maintenance Superintendent Dave Stupka during the Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting that was held at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025.
Price’s service to the Dare County community began on August 19, 2013, when he was initially hired to serve as a carpenter for Dare County Public Works. Three years later, on September 25, 2016, he was promoted to the position of lead carpenter for the department before being promoted once again—to his current position as facility maintenance supervisor—on February 25, 2018.
“It’s my privilege this morning to introduce our Employee of the Month for July: Gordon Price,” said Stupka as he began his presentation. “Many of us in this room know him, recognize him or have had some interaction with him at some point. Over his 12 years, there’s probably not much he hasn’t had his hands on or participated in as he supervised and organized work for over 67 buildings and structures throughout Dare County. He’s friendly, respectful and polite to his customers and provides them with the most expeditious and quality results.”

As he continued his presentation, Stupka noted the fact that, in addition to his ability to delegate responsibilities and projects to his staff members effectively and efficiently, Price is also very much a team player who doesn’t consider himself to be above any of the facilities maintenance tasks that need to be completed for Dare County.
“When it comes down to the worst job we have to do, Gordon is the first in line to take it on without hesitation or complaining—he’s always there to get the job done. He prides himself on letting his employees know that he’s not above doing the dirty work,” said Stupka. “This past year, he’s been involved in numerous projects and a ton of work orders, ranging from moving a picture on the wall to configuring an office space to pumping out septic tanks. His maintenance skills, attention to detail and passion to do the job correctly the first time are second to none. He communicates very well and provides in-depth and very precise instructions to his employees when handing out work orders, projects or when it comes to training.”
Stupka also praised Price for stepping up to the plate and taking on an assortment of additional duties for several months following the retirement of Dare County Public Works’ previous facilities maintenance superintendent.
“Gordon is recognized by his peers and his facilities team for the extensive and grueling workload he endured during the three months following the absence of the previous superintendent,” said Stupka. “He held the department together while performing not only his primary job but also that of the superintendent, which included timesheets, performance reviews, projects and over 300 work orders—not including emails and phone call requests.”

In addition to his reputation for being willing to step in to assist wherever and whenever help is needed—regardless of the task or project at hand—Price is also widely recognized for consistently going above and beyond his daily responsibilities with unwavering dedication and commitment. Stupka noted that he is deeply respected and well-liked by all of his colleagues, not only for his effective management style but also for the genuine care and compassion he extends to those he supervises—seeing his team members as individuals, not just employees, and fostering a workplace culture within his department that is built on mutual respect, appreciation and plenty of support.
“With his supervisory style and his knack for recognizing talents throughout the department, Gordon organizes the daily workload in the most efficient manner and keeps the department functional. His employees enjoy and love having him as a supervisor. No matter who they are, he treats all of them with respect and dignity and enjoys having fun with them all,” said Stupka. “But one thing that stands out amongst his employees, peers and managers is his empathy and compassion for his employees. He sees and understands when they’re having a bad day or may be struggling. He works with the employees to keep them focused, calm and at ease in a manner that’s amazing. He is definitely a ‘family first’ kind of guy.”
As he concluded his remarks and presented Price with the Dare County Employee of the Month award for July 2025, Stupka commented, “The maintenance facilities team and I are grateful for the opportunity to work with Gordon and respect his dedication and commitment to the department and the entire organization.”
