The Dare County Sheriff's Office is proud to protect and serve its community, citizens and visitors. Since 1870, Dare County Deputies have been doing their part to help make our community on the Outer Banks, Roanoke Island and the mainland of Dare County a better place to live, work and visit. With a current staff of 147 Deputies and support personnel, the Dare County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency working within various divisions. We also run a great Summer Camp for our youth.

Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Arrest

On June 30, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., deputies from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office assisted the National Park Service with a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on NC Highway 12 for a driving violation. During the course of the stop, probable cause was established to conduct a search of the vehicle.

The search resulted in the discovery and seizure of an amount of marijuana, methamphetamine, and psilocybin mushrooms.

Todd R. Hulings, M/31, from Blackstone, Virginia, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Felony PWISD Marijuana 

  • Felony Traffick in Methamphetamine

  • Felony PWIMSD Methamphetamine

  • Felony Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling/Place for Controlled Substances

  • Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance

  • (M) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 

  • (M) Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia 

  • (M) Reckless Driving to Endanger

  • (M) Speeding

  • (M) Driving While Impaired

Mr. Hulings was issued a $25,000 secured bond.

Brittany R. Grady, F/32, from Blackstone, Virginia, was arrested and charged with (M) Possession of Marijuana up to ½ oz and (M) Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.

Ms. Grady was issued a $3,000 secured bond.
