All Dare County offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026 observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Therefore, the Dare County C&D Landfill and the Buxton Transfer Station will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026. These sites will reopen on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Dare County Public Works, which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk, has announced a revised collection schedule for residential and commercial trash collection in observance of the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Residential trash collection for the week of Monday, January 19, 2026 through Friday, January 23, 2026, will be as follows:
- Monday, January 19, 2026: Closed - No trash collection
- Tuesday, January 20, 2026: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras.
- Wednesday, January 21, 2026: Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon.
- Thursday, January 22, 2026: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras.
- Friday, January 23, 2026: Manteo, Wanchese, Skyco, Manns Harbor, Mashoes, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon.
Commercial dumpster collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County and the Town of Kitty Hawk will take place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 and Friday, January 23, 2026.
REMINDER: The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the Town of Kitty Hawk and the unincorporated areas of Dare County. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits. If you are located within one of the incorporated towns within Dare County, please your contact your municipality for information regarding any trash collection schedule changes in your area.
